There are trends in the watch business, rather like in fashion, except that in watches the season is yearly while in fashion there are two major seasons each year. In a way this is quite surprising, considering the long development time for watches, but one of the features that emerged at the two big shows in January and April this year was mother-of-pearl dials for women’s watches. The De Ville Prestige Butterfly demonstrates this, with three dial designs, one in a silver or champagne metallic dial, and two with mother of pearl. All three have butterflies as the main decorative motif, and diamonds for indexes and around the bezel. See more butterfly watches here.
In Chinese culture, the butterfly is symbolic of love and longevity. The watch was recently presented in Seoul, at Dongdaemun Design Plaza designed by Zaha Hadid, during an event in which 21,000 white flowers were lit by small LED bulbs.
Cases are in white, red or yellow gold, in two sizes, 36.8 and 32.7 mm. The straps are in white satin-brushed leather, or metal bracelets for the smaller sizes. The watches are powered by a quartz movement, or by the Omega 2500 co-axial escapement.
