Company profile:
Laurent Ferrier, born in 1946, is a third-generation watchmaker who trained at the Geneva school of watchmaking, and spent his working life, 37 years, at a famous maison in Geneva, developing prototype movements and then the creative design of timepieces. When he retired, he and his greatest friend François Servanin were able to achieve their ambition of creating their own watch. Their friendship had been cemented by their car-racing career, in which they came third in the 1979 Le Mans 24-hour race driving a Porsche 935T. Their first watch was the Tourbillon Double Spiral, presented in 2008. In 2010 he founded the company, and in the same year it won the award for Best Men’s Watch at GPHG. In 2016 Laurent Ferrier was invited to exhibit at the watch fair SIHH in Geneva.
Today the company has from four to six watchmakers, and a total of 15 people, including Laurent’s son Christian Ferrier who studied Micro-technics at the Geneva watchmaking school. They make 120 watches per year, at prices ranging from about 35,000 Swiss francs for watches with steel cases, to about 180,000 Swiss francs for the tourbillon models. From the start, Asia and Singapore (in particular watch retailer The Hourglass) were important markets for the brand, and this is still true today. Other important markets are Hong Kong, the USA, France and the UK. Laurent Ferrier himself stated his ambition for the company: “I nurtured a dream of making watches that represent my horological values, simplicity, precision and pure, uncluttered beauty.”
