Mondia, attractively-priced automatic watches

Mondia watches is an Italian brand whose range includes some automatic watches with movements by Japanese company Miyota. Their reference MI 1723-1CP, part of the Vintage collection, is a men’s three-hand watch with date, 42 mm case that is 13.5 mm thick, with leather strap. It is powered by the Miyota 821A movement. The “1946” on the dial refers to the origins of the company and more specifically the year in which an advertisement for a Mondia watch appeared for the first time. Price of this piece in the photo below is €374. Exceptionally good value, considering the automatic movement, the good dial finish with applied hour markers, and the fine gloss of the steel case.

The other version of the same watch in the photo below (MI 723R-1CP on the right) has a pink gold PVD treatment finish on the case and buckle, and it costs €398:

An example of one of their women’s watches is the Madison automatic watch 9230, reference 1-693-2, with a Swiss ETA movement in a 32 mm case, and a steel bracelet with a combination of gloss and satin links. It is quite a chunky piece, solid, with sapphire caseback. Price €520.

The watches are distributed in Italy: for details see http://www.mondiawatchgroup.com/

The company was founded at Le Locle, Switzerland, in 1935; it became specialized in the Italian market, and in 1970 it became part of the Zenith group. Today the brand is based in Voghera, near Pavia, Italy, and it distributes its own branded watches as a subsidiary of Milan-based company Sordi SpA. Mondia also makes watches made for other brands such as Momo Design, Scuderia Ferrari and Boss Orange.

  2. I too have a Mondia deluxe Golden Horse watch case with the dial only.No infos.about its origin( whether made in Swiss or Italy). Number of jewels not mentioned on the dial.May be a fake one!( Duplicated in Mumbai). In the case of Mumbai made, the watch is not much costlier. However,i need a movement for the case.If anyone has the movement (mondia deluxe Golden Horse) and is ready to offer it on sale,I am ready to buy it,provided the movement is in good working condion with all parts in tact.
