Three of IWC’s pilot’s watches are grounded

The 2016 pilot’s watches by IWC Schaffhausen included some small 36 mm pieces that seemed to reflect an interest in the genre on the part of women. Three of the 3240 references, IWC Pilot’s Watch Automatic 36, have been withdrawn from the catalogue: IW324003, the watch with blue dial markings and blue alligator strap that I thought was particularly attractive; IW324004, the same piece but with stainless steel bracelet; and 324005, with gold-coloured indices and brown alligator strap. This reduction of the range, with respect to the models presented at SIHH in January 2016, presumably reflects insufficient orders from retailers and clients.

The watches no longer in the IWC catalogue. From left, IW324003, IW324004, IW324005

Two of the IW3240 references remain available, IW324001, with slate-coloured dial and dark brown alligator strap, and IW324002, the same but with stainless steel bracelet.

IW324001 and IW324002

The 3240 watches still in the catalogue: IW324001 and IW324002

Perhaps a few of the abandoned 3240 references were produced. In that case, perhaps they will become coveted collector’s items?
