This special edition watch of the Radiomir is named after the city of Florence, birthplace of Panerai, and the 99 pieces will be available exclusively at the historic boutique in Piazza San Giovanni, Florence. The watch encapsulates a lot of history, with the steel case 47 mm in diameter like the first Officine Panerai watch made in 1936, a beautifully-engraved case that recalls the decoration of the city’s architectural masterpieces such as the Cathedral, in the photo above, and the characteristic wire-loop lugs.
A case of fine craftsmanship
AISI 316L stainless steel is a hard metal, and tough to engrave by hand, and each case takes over a week to complete. The dial provides a contrast between a dark sunburst finish and the sandwich structure, with perforations for the hour markers and numerals for optimum luminosity at night. The case is water-resistant to 10 bar, 100 metres, reflecting the brand’s origins as suppliers to Italian Naval commando divers. The watch is mounted on a black alligator strap with contrasting stitching.
Movement
The movement is the in-house hand-wound P.3000 calibre, with two barrels providing 72 hours (3 days) power reserve. The balance is large at 13.2 mm in diameter, with a rate of 21,600 vph (3 Hertz). The hour hand can be adjusted without altering the position of the minute hand if you so desire.
