If you’re looking for the perfect gift for your better half, and you have a budget of around £1.4 million, Blancpain has just the thing, available at Harrods in December. The Tourbillon Diamonds is powered by Blancpain’s Calibre 25A, a self-winding mechanical movement with 239 parts, providing a 7-day power reserve. The tourbillon can be seen through a circular well in the top of the dial, while on the back, the platinum oscillating weight can be admired with its hand-engraved decoration. The case, 40 mm in diameter, has a water resistance of 100 metres.
All surfaces of the case are covered in 480 baguette diamonds for a total of 58 carats, with each stone carefully set in an irregular pattern. The gem-setters succeeded in finding the right place for each stone on the circular forms of the case in a process that must require even more skill than building a dry-stone wall. The bracelet in white gold is also gemset with a total of 42 carats of diamonds. The recommended retail price for the watch, available only at Harrods in London, is £1,410,720.
