The Vintage 1945 collection has a long history, as its name suggests, and the Vintage 1945 Small Second by Girard-Perregaux is a modern version of the original Art Deco design, with pink gold and steel case, applied numerals on dial and dauphine faceted hands. In comparison with most Girard-Perregaux watches, this has a relatively accessible price, €12,600. Below, the original 1945 version:
Below, the new anniversary edition:
The case is simple and complex, rectangular but with curves in all dimensions so that the dial has a spherical geometry, on which the hands are also slightly curved. It is fairly small at 36.2 x 35.25 mm, suitable for all wrist sizes, and for men and women. The caseback curves in the same way, increasing its comfort; the case sides culminate in lugs that hold the brown alligator strap with folding clasp, continuing the linear design. Water resistance is the customary 30 metres (resistant to splashes, no swimming or showering).
Movement
The watch is powered by an in-house self-winding movement, the GP03300-0051 running at 28,800 vph (4 Hertz), with a 46-hour power reserve. It has 213 components, at it is decorated with Côtes de Genève and circular graining on the bridges, main plate and oscillating weight, though this can’t be seen because of the Vintage 1945 anniversary caseback.
