At Baselworld 2016, Corum’s COO Davide Traxler was notably upbeat about the company’s situation, with 10,700 watches made in 2015, 8,000 sold, and three new in-house movements. His objective for 2016 is 30% growth. The new movements are made by Eterna, another brand which, like Corum itself, belongs to the Chinese holding company Citychamp Watch & Jewellery Ltd. At Baselworld, Corum underlined these sexy economic results with probably the kinkiest watch so far this year, the Corum Bubble Dani Olivier. It is part of the extensive series of Bubble Watches presented this year, a total of 35 new models at prices ranging from 3,700 to 155,000 Swiss francs.

Dani Olivier’s images are photographs, not digital compositions. He shines stripes of light onto models and takes photos that become futuristic, psychedelic abstractions. Two of Dani Olivier’s images are reproduced on the dials of the two Bubble watches shown here. The sensual curves are a perfect match for the bulging Bubble case, with its oversized domed sapphire crystal, possibly originally inspired by the Rolex Deep Sea. The Corum key logo at 3 o’clock is applied in a colour matching the portrait. The rhodium-plated hands are skeletonized, and the 47mm Bubble case, 18.5 mm in thickness. is coated in black PVD.

The two Bubble Dani Olivier watches are limited editions of 88 watches each, with one of these being a unique piece with a red gold bezel. They are powered by the automatic calibre CO082, running at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hertz), with a power reserve of 42 hours. This calibre is a modified Soprod A10 movement, visible through the sapphire caseback. The stainless steel case has a 100-metre water resistance (10 bar). The strap is in calfskin with rubber lining. No news about prices, but probably starting from around 4,000 Swiss francs for the 87-piece editions.
