In 2016 and 2017, Peter Speake-Marin is presenting several pieces in small editions, in order to express many ideas without expanding the existing collection. At SIHH in Geneva in January 2017, the Wing Commander was presented in two limited editions, each 28 pieces, with white dials (an innovation with respect to previous Wing Commander models that had dark or black dials closer to the pilot’s watch inspiration). As you can see from the Speake-Marin website, the brand identity has been reviewed, choosing these two colours as hallmark hues.
Case and dial
The dial is clean-honed, with the white background providing a perfect setting for the large seconds disc, the hour indications with two Roman numerals, the big date at the top, and the Speake-Marin “Foundation” hands. All this is framed by the 42-millimetre Piccadilly case in titanium, with its distinctive lugs and fluting. The caseband is finished in coordinating DLC colour. The case has a water resistance of 3 bar, 30 metres, with a rubber or calf leather strap, titanium buckle.
The solid caseback bears the motto “Fight, Love & Persevere.” Inside, the watch is powered by the self-winding Timeless 1024 calibre. This is not made in-house, and is by one of the Swiss suppliers that Peter Speake-Marin habitually uses, Concepto, Technotime and Vaucher. In this particular instance, it could be the Concepto 2250. The movement runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour, 4 Hertz, and has a power reserve of 48 hours. The crown has a quick date-change position.
