The Milano San Babila by Italian brand TerraCieloMare (TCM) is a watch that illustrates two important trends: extending the range to women, and the colour green. The watch has a 38mm case making it a unisex piece, and the green colour of the dial is a nice match to the bezel in marine bronze, which progressively ages to form the characteristic bronze patina (as can be seen in the photo below). Most watches by TCM celebrate Italian aviation, such as their recent Avio Tipo F, but the Milano San Babila is named after a square in Milan that in the late 1970s and early ’80s was the place where a certain crowd of young people, the “Paninari,” hung out in their Moncler padded jackets and Timberland boots. I guess they died out with global warming.
Details and price
The watch has a screw-in caseback that contributes to the excellent water resistance of 10 atm making this an ideal everyday watch. It is powered by a self-winding ETA 2824 movement. The strap is in English hand-stitched leather. The watch is a numbered edition and it costs €1,980 until the end of 2017. It is a symbolic price, recalling 1980, the days when the Paninari were at their height in Piazza San Babila. More information at the TCM website.
