Sinn EZM 7

This watch by Sinn looks bright and colourful, particularly with the red silicone strap that is one of the options. But the colours on the dial have a serious purpose: the watch was designed in cooperation with German fire brigade personnel, and it is colour coded to time the period at which a fire-fighter can be in operation wearing breathing apparatus. The name of the watch, EZM 7, is based on the acronym for Einsatzzeitmesser, mission timer. The rotating bezel, unidirectional as in diving watches, can be set so that the triangle on the bezel corresponds to the position of the minute hand. The first green sector corresponds to 20 minutes, the fire-fighting mission time possible with a protective suit; the yellow sector shows 30 minutes, when breathing compressed air; and the red sector shows one hour, corresponding to closed-circuit breathing equipment. At the centre of the dial, these technical timespans are explained with their respective German initials.

At the centre of the dial, there is a short skeletonized hand operating on a 24-hour scale. It is used to indicate a second time zone.

The watch has a solid, nickel-free caseback.

Robust construction

The watch is made of bead-blasted stainless steel, incorporating Tegiment technology that hardens the metal and makes it scratch-resistant. The case, 43 mm in diameter and 12 mm thick, has a hard black PVD coating that further improves its appearance. Protection from fogging is provided by dehumidifying technology; the watch operates from -45°C to +80°C, and it is water-resistant to 200 metres depth. It has magnetic field protection of up to 80,000 A/m, about 1,000 gauss. The crown is on the left of the watch, so that there is no discomfort when worn on the wrist.

Movement

The EZM 7 has a mechanical self-winding movement, the ETA 2893-2, which provides the stop seconds function for accurate synchronization, and 42 hours power reserve. The crown is used to set date, and the 24 hours hand (pulling it out to the first position, rotation in one direction changes the date, in the other direction the second time zone), and time (pulling it out to the second position).
