The new Ikarus Klassik Sport by Stowa looks sleek and modern with its light grey rhodium-plated, bead-blasted dial, minimalist dial design and brushed steel case, but it is in fact very close to the original Stowa Flieger Baumuster Type A, as can be seen from the photo of a watch made in about 1939 below. With respect to the historic original, the Ikarus Klassik Sport has the brand name on the dial, a date window at 6 o’clock, and a sapphire caseback through which the oscillating weight can be seen, marked with the watch’s characteristics.
The Ikarus Klassik Sport has a 43 mm stainless steel case, 12.3 mm thick, with a high level of water resistance (200 metres) and excellent shock resistance provided by the brand’s TESTAF system that offers protection against shocks and vibrations, and is certified according to the new Flieger watches standard developed in cooperation with FH Aachen. The crown is screw-down. Dial markings and hands are coated in SuperLuminova C3.
The automatic movement is Swiss-made at the highest level of quality and finish, the ETA 2824-2, running at 28,800 vph (4 Hertz). Power reserve is about 38 hours. The “Top” finish includes touches such as Cotes de Genève decoration, blued screws and the personalized rhodium-coated rotor with B-Uhr engraving and serial number.
The watch has a strap in black rubber, or it can be ordered with a black leather strap, or a black leather strap with contrasting stitching, for a small extra price (€1,290 instead of €1,270).
The watch can be purchased from the brand’s website, price € 1,067.23 without V.A.T. and €1,270 with V.A.T. Click here to visit the respective page.
