The complete name for this collection by Audemars Piguet is the Royal Oak Offshore Funky Colour Diver, and it’s the colour that is the standout feature. In 2016, the Royal Oak Offshore Diver Chronograph was launched in these youthful colours, and this year it’s the turn of the time-only diver’s watch. The success of this colour series can be seen from the fact that it has also been applied to the limited edition complication watch, Royal Oak Offshore Tourbillon Chronograph. At Audemars Piguet they say that all the colours sell well, but that the most popular is the lime green.
Five colour variants and extra strap
The Royal Oak Offshore Diver is available in white, dark blue, acid yellow, lime green and bright orange, each with matching rubber strap. In addition, each piece comes with an additional blue strap, as this colour is always present somewhere on the dial and in other details such as the date window and the crown.
Classic diver’s watch functionality
The watch has the usual diver’s characteristics, with screw-locked crowns, 300 metres water resistance, and an inner rotating bezel, controlled by the second crown at 10 o’clock. Against the textured “mega Tapisserie” dial, the white gold applied hour markers and Royal Oak hands are coated in luminescent paint.
Self-winding in-house movement
The Calibre 3120 has 280 components and 40 jewels, and runs at 3 Hertz, 21,600 vibrations per hour, with a power reserve of 60 hours. It is housed in the stainless steel case, 42 mm in diameter, with a fairly small display window in the caseback. All bridges are finished with Côtes de Genève, and the gold oscillating weight is decorated with the Audemars and Piguet family crests, with stars, birds, castle (Audemars, on the left) and a horse holding a sword (Piguet, on the right). The movement has the stop-seconds function. Its robust construction, accuracy and reliability make it a fine in-house calibre.
