Mido is a Swatch Group company that makes watches at accessible prices. The Multifort Escape is a watch that has a lot of pilot’s watch features, such as the simple dial layout with Arabic numerals, hands with SuperLuminova, and large conical crown, but it has other elements that give it extra character, for example the lovely aged steel case and the vertical stripes pattern on the dial (a trademark of Mido’s Multifort watches). It could be described as a “sports pilot’s watch” with its water resistance of 10 bar, 100 metres. Click here for the Top Ten Sports Watches.
The case is in stainless steel, 44 mm in diameter and 11 mm thick, given an antique-style patina by means of a PVD coating. Watchglass and caseback are in sapphire crystal, and the watchglass has an anti-reflective coating. The dial has a date window at 6 o’clock, and the date can be changed from the crown. The strap is in leather with a steel buckle. The hands are skeletonized near the pivot and filled with SuperLuminova at the tips.
Self-winding movement, 80 hours power reserve
The display caseback reveals the Calibre 80.611 movement, self-winding with a Mido-branded oscillating weight. This is Mido’s designation of the ETA C07 or Powermatic 80, an updated version of the 2824-2. Its principal benefit is a power reserve of 80 hours, over three days, obtained by means of the mainspring by Nivarox, and the lower balance frequency, 3 Hertz. In visual terms, the sweep of the seconds hand is jerkier than with a 4-Hertz movement, but reportedly the movement’s time-keeping precision is excellent. It provides the stop-seconds function.
