Eberhard & Co. Scafograf GMT

In addition to its Chrono 4 models introduced in 2017, Eberhard & Co. has presented the Scafograf GMT. This follows on from Scafograf 300, launched last year, which won the Sports Watch Prize at the 2017 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. Scafograf GMT has some sports watch features, such as a 100 metre water resistance, luminous hands and rubber strap. Instead of the unidirectional diver’s bezel, it has a 24-hour bi-directional bezel and a GMT hour hand. This makes it possible to read local time on the hour and minute hands, a second time zone (home time) with the bezel in its normal position, and a third time zone by rotating the bezel through a number of hours corresponding to the time difference. Fairly slim case

The case is generously-sized at 43 mm diameter, and it’s fairly slim at 11.8 mm thickness. The bezel is in steel with a ceramic insert, available in black or blue to match the dial colour. The dial is slightly domed, and the bezel numerals have a modern, geometrical design. Overall it’s an attractive piece, providing a choice between black and the current trend colour in watches, dark blue. In addition to the hands and hour markers, the 12 o’clock marker on the bezel is also luminescent. The caseback is solid, in steel like the case, engraved with a stylized hemisphere with time zones.

Rubber strap or steel bracelet

The rubber strap bears the E shield motif, and it integrates neatly into the case. There are also more shields inside the strap, forming a texture that aerates the skin. It is closed by means of a buckle or the brand’s Déclic clasp. Alternatively the watch is available with a steel bracelet with Déclic clasp.

ETA 2893-2 movement

The watch is powered by the ETA 2893-2 calibre, self-winding, running at 28,800 vibrations per hour, 4 Hertz, 42 hours power reserve. All adjustments are made from the crown, which is not screw-down and has three positions. In the normal position it can be used to manually wind the watch should this be necessary. In position 2, it has two functions, rapid date change in one direction, and adjustment of the 24-hour hand in the other direction. In position 3 it adjusts the time, with stop-time function.
