The OutDoor Protect by Archimede is a tough sports watch, with a specially hardened stainless steel case, a 20 atm, 200-metre water resistance, brushed case finish, screw-down crown, and a version in which the entire dial is coated with luminescent paint.
Luminescent dial and hands
It’s the full lume dial that makes this piece different from most. The hands and hour markers are black, but the Archimede designers have added luminescent paint to the hour and minute hands too, and judging from the photographs, the slight differentiation in luminosity in any case enables you to tell the time easily in the dark. This is definitely a watch that I would like to see in action.
Scratch-resistant case
The case is 39 mm wide, with the crown adding another 3 mm for a total width of 42 mm. It is 11.2 mm thick and so pleasantly slim, OK for slipping under a shirt cuff. The hardening process used by the case manufacturing company Ickler produces a surface that has a hardness of 1,200 HV. It is not a surface coating, but a hardened layer that extends down for about 30 microns.
Range of dial colours
In addition to the full lume dial, the OutDoor Protect is available in a range of colours, black, blue, green, sand, white, red. The standard caseback is solid, but for an extra €85 you can have a display caseback that provides the same water resistance.
Swiss-made self-winding movement
The movement is the Swiss-made Sellita SW200-1, self-winding, running at 4 Hertz with a 38-hour power reserve.
