These two special edition watches by Panerai are specifically for the Middle East region, sold exclusively in Panerai boutiques in the Middle East and Africa area. The Luminor Marina is one of the Panerai classics, a 44 mm watch with small seconds at 9 o’clock and date at 3 o’clock. It is an entry-level piece for the brand, costing $5,000 plus tax for the steel version. These two new versions are limited editions, with two new dial colours. Below, PAM00734:

Case and dial

PAM00734 has a sand-colour dial, and is limited to 100 pieces; PAM00733 has a deep blue dial, and is limited to 50 pieces. Both have numerals, hour batons, small seconds batons and hands in SuperLuminova for visibility in the dark. The dial has Panerai’s typical sandwich structure with a layer of SuperLuminova at the centre and the indications cut-out, a system that enhances night-time luminosity. The case is 44 mm in diameter, in titanium, with the patented crown protector that keeps the crown firmly in position and contributes to the 30 bar, 300 metre water resistance rating. It is finished with areas of bright metal – such as the bezel – contrasting with the overall brushed satin texture. Below, PAM00733:

P.9000 movement

The caseback has a circular window in sapphire crystal revealing the P.9000 movement, made in-house. The movement is self-winding and has a power reserve of 72 hours, 3 days, provided by two mainspring barrels. The calibre has the stop-seconds function, and the hour hand can be adjusted in one-hour jumps without affecting the running of the watch and the minutes hand, a useful function when changing time zones. The Glucydur balance runs at 4 Hertz, 28,800 vibrations per hour, and is free-sprung, so that it is regulated by fine-adjusting the attachment point of the balance spring. The movement has the typical Panerai brushed finish, with a few blued screws and jewels adding touches of colour.

Fine titanium bracelet

The bracelet is perfectly matched to the case, with links with contrasting brushed and polished finish. It is made in titanium, and so the complete watch is lighter than its equivalent in steel. It is beautifully constructed with curving links for comfort. Adjustable links are held with screws. The folding clasp has two buttons for opening. The presentation box includes a second strap, dark blue alligator leather for PAM00734, or beige textile for PAM00733.
